How to Empty Eggs to Decorate Them for Easter
When I was little, I did this activity every year with my mother. And now that I am a mother, I like to do it with my little ones, it’s like a family tradition, but it is also very entertaining for children.
It is true that nowadays it is very easy to find plastic eggs that are ready to paint or decorate directly, but in case you want to do it the traditional way, here is a step by step tutorial to empty the eggs.
What you will need:
- A bowl to pour the egg yolks and whites
- A thumbtack to puncture the shells
- A toothpick
- A straw
The first thing we will do is clean the eggs thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dirt. We will take the thumbtack and make a small hole in the upper part and in the lower part of the egg.
Later we will introduce the toothpick several times through the holes to make them a little bigger and try to break the yolk inside.
We hold the egg firmly and place the straw over the hole at the top. We blow hard so that the contents of the egg come out through the hole at the bottom. We will use the toothpick to help liberate any obstructions that may form and continue blowing until all the contents comes out.
We will clean the egg with hot water and empty it completely. Let dry and ready to decorate!
Then you can paint them with watercolors, acrylic paint, markers or you can use papers or napkins to decorate them (decoupage). They can be tinted with different dyes, such as food coloring or sprays. I used watercolors to paint mine, but you can use whatever you have at home. Of course, I do recommend a fine brush or fine tip markers to do the details.
There are a lot of possibilities when it comes to design. I have to admit that I have been wanting to try different ideas to what I did (which I am not very happy about) and I will probably try again with another design … Just use your imagination! You can get inspired in Pinterest, there are so many beautiful designs! Here you have a link to our Easter board on Pinterest with the ideas that I liked the most. Have fun!
