5 Tips For Writing Your Christmas Letters

Christmas letters are a great way to keep in touch with family and friends. We live in a very technological society, and our communication is becoming more impersonal as we use email, text messages or social networks to keep in touch. Writing a letter and sending it by mail is a way to convey that the person receiving it is worthy of our time. It is a way of saying that we care.

Writing a letter and sending it by mail is a way to convey that the person receiving it is worthy of our time. It is a way of saying that we care.

There are many ways to write Christmas cards. You could write something like “I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year”. You could also write a long letter describing all the interesting things that happened this year. In any case, I assure you that whatever you write will make the person receiving it smile.

1. Prepare in advance.

Make sure you have plenty of time to write all the letters and send them, so that they arrive at their destination on the desired date.

It is also a good idea to make a list of all the people to whom you are sending the cards and make sure that you have all the shipping addresses and that they are currently updated.

If you can get someone to help you, like your partner or your children, you will make the task easier and it will also become a fun family activity.

When the time comes to start writing, make sure you have all the necessary material and the amount you need: paper, envelopes, stamps, pens … You don’t want to run out once you’re in the middle of it!

2. Write the letter by hand

It is true that this will take more time, but the fact that you’re writing it by hand will make your card something much more special. If you are going to send many, you can write a shorter text, for example.

Another option is to write a general letter on the computer and print it, and then write a personalized note to put in each envelope along with it.

3. Include photos

Including some photos in your letter can help provide information on the events that are narrated in it. If there has been a birth, for example, friends and family will like to see the face of the new member of the family.

Depending on your personality and your lifestyle, the photos can be very varied. They can be from a trip that you have made, the new puppy you have adopted, an excursion, sports competitions, birthday parties, the children’s show at school … Surely you have a thousand things to share!

It’s a great way to include the person who receives the letter in your world and your life. This simple gesture will bring you closer, as it will almost make them feel as if they had been there. Remember … an image is worth a thousand words!

4. Stick to positive things

There are times that our year may not have been the best. In life, sometimes things happen that are not so wonderful… but in the Christmas cards you must remember that the goal is to convey joy and make the other person feel good when he or she receives it.

If you have no choice but to transmit bad news, try to do it as gently as possible. It is always a good idea to continue with other positive news to end on a more optimistic note.

5. Don’t go into too much detail

Our acquaintances will love knowing about our lives, however, if we go into a lot of detail we risk them getting bored. It is best to summarize all the things we want to tell, and limit the letter to a single-sided sheet of paper, two at the most.

It is neither appropriate to brag or complain in the letter. We can be very proud of the good grades our children got, or having finished in first position in the marathon, however, we should try not to give it too much importance. The same goes for complaints, nobody likes to listen to them.
